The peaceful utopian society of Pern has ruptured, once in the past long forgotten during a time called the Great War that lasted for nearly twenty-five Turns, and now in the present, where dragons attack humans. The dragonriders have returned after nearly half a millennium of absence, their mere existence shoved into myth and legend, only to bring calamity with them in the form of MADs. A disease that has been classified as the dragon version of rabies, those infected have been dubbed as MADs, proceeding to kill friend and foe alike in a savage rage.
Malay Weyrhold was the first to go.
Southern Hold made do with a few casualties.
Igen Hold was destroyed.
With queens being the most dangerous of all.[/i]
It's been nearly ten Turns since the quarantine and only one known MAD still exists. Golden Oranath. One of the last living queens of dragonkind, she was the only one out of all her brethren to defeat the disease, but not without casulaties, nearly destroying Southern Weyrhold. Taken away in chains, her location never disclosed, she has been shut off from dragonkind and her rider for nearly five Turns, many clamoring for her death as they claim her sterile... only to be proven wrong. The queen has Risen for her mating Flight, and proven egg heavy for the first time since the her rampage, what we can expect from this clutch is unknown.
Yet in the midst of this does hope rise, with Southern Weyrhold forced to move because of an earthquake, the first Weyr on Pern to be active in two thousands Turns is awake and a new fire is burning...
