One look at this dragon and an individual is instantly reminded of the setting sun. Her base coat is a dusky gold, almost coppery in tint. It ripples out and lightens around her extremities, fading to a light golden rod. Basted over this is a sheen of reddish-gold that glints metallic with her movements.
Her pinions are similarly shaded. At the tips of the digits they start off as a deep, dark amber. Over the course of the finger-like structure it washes out until becoming a light strawberry-blond that blends into her base coat. The membranes themselves are the same color as the 'freckles' she has and they are large, almost too big for her frame. As a hatchling she tripped over them a good deal. But as she matured, they became a boon.
Flight is easy for her. Lithe and slender of frame, those large wings give her exceptional lift. And with such a long tail she is able to change course as agilely as a creature fifty feet at the shoulder can. Yet as swift as she might end up being in the air, she's a little clumsy on the ground. That tail which is such an asset in the air knocks things over and she trips from the balance issues. As undignified as such actions are, she makes it work...some how.
Personality
Avalonia is somewhat of an Aristocrat with a dash of condescending bitch thrown in there for flavor. A vain creature, she hates all types of dirt and grime. She will insist on being cleaned regularly and have her hide oiled to a dazzling gleam. Her claws she wants neatly filed to sharp points and her teeth better be brushed daily, thank you very much. If not, she will be a very unpleasant creature to be around. She will whine and sigh dramatically until she gets her way. That's just how she is.
This dragon is also very lady like. She is a beauty and knows that all eyes will be on her. At least she likes to think that all eyes are on her. So she puts on stately airs much like a stately Baroness. There are males around? She'll be coy and flirty, batting her non-existent eyelashes. Oh, there's a visiting sponsor? Avalonia will make conversation and play nice. She's all saccharine sweetness and manners when there is the need. Even those she is less than enthused about are treated with at least some iota of politeness. Oh, she won't go out of her way to be friendly. Her reception of these individuals will be luke warm at best.
But for all her self servicing she really isn't that bad of a Dragon. When her riders mind takes a turn off into La La land she helps to steer her right on track again. If there is a genuine issue under foot, Avalonia will focus her full attention on it. She doesn't tolerate petty squabbling and will try and quash it for the sake of the unity of the riders beneath her guidance. Duty isn't something she takes lightly.
Speaking of duty, when competing the Gold can be quite fierce. She's vicious, not above playing dirty, and will use all her charms to get her way. Where her rider is Naive she is Sly. Where Fanae is honest, Avalonia is manipulative.
And should she ever decide to let a male mate with her, it's all over. Her babies will be her life. Those eggs will be lovingly turned daily. They will be fawned over to extremes. The most eccentric thing that she absolutely demands about their care is that they be buffed daily. Yes, buffed, as in polished clean. Her eggs will not suffer to look like ugly rocks. Even after hatching she will continue to keep an eye on her spawn and spoil the shells out of her 'favorites.'
Though, she can be more than a bit over affectionate to her offspring. This Dragon will practically smother her progeny with attention. She will nit pick and coddle them until they're flying for their lives. When they complain to her she will bemoan how her offspring don't appreciate her, how they don't love her. After all, mother knows best right? It isn't her fault that her naughty babies aren't prim and tidy like they're supposed to be. Oh and skies forbid she finds a scale out of place on one of them! Their rider will get reamed for being a neglectful and insufficient human partner for her precious child!
This of course has lead to some interesting conversations to Fanae. More than one rider pair has complained about how overbearing the Dragon is. Grown rider pairs don't even escape her fussing. It's perhaps one of the more humerus points of contention between the Dragon and her offspring. Speaking of contention...
When crossed Avalonia can do one of two things. Depending upon the situation she will either go on a horrific guilt trip or turn up the dial on bitch mode to eleven. You insulted her beautiful self? Why, you're just jealous you are! Why'd you have to try and hurt her feelings? She's going to try and make you feel horrible, telling you how down right mean you are. Oh, how cruel of a monster you are and after all those nice things she did for you too! Start in on how she competes or demean her rider? Well, lets see if you can do better! The gold will scathingly cut the person or dragon down and do her level best to make them feel like the insignificant gnat she feels they are. Let them try and win those events! Why, the nerve!
